Auckland Bylaw changes
Submission guide
What should I say in my submission?
The Auckland Council form will ask why you do not support a limit. In this box you should;
-
State that you do not support the proposed limit
-
Explain why you do not support the proposed limit
-
Because it penalises good dog owners and does nothing to stop bad dog owners who don't follow the rules
-
Because Auckland has a roaming dog problem not a problem with responsible dog walkers
-
It will not address any issues as none of these are caused by the number of dogs walkers
-
It will stop responsible professional dog walkers from operating and support responsible dog owners who care for their dogs
-
-
Propose a solution
-
Council should collaborate with professional dog walkers and create a dog walker license
-
Council should focus resources on roaming dogs not responsible owners
-
Council should better enforce existing bylaws not make new ones
-
-
Include your own story
Tell council about your experience with multiple dog walkers and also roaming dogs
Submission Example
I do not support the proposed limit on walking multiple dogs.
The proposed limit will only penalise responsible dog owners and will not stop irresponsible people who do not follow existing laws.
Auckland has a serious issue with roaming dogs and Council should focus on this not multiple dog walkers who make up a tiny amount of reported issues. [Add your own story about roaming dogs such as "I am scared to walking my dog in my local area because of the multiple roaming and aggressive dogs I see."]
I support a license being developed to regulate professional dog walkers as they have the skills to handle multiple dogs and provide a valuable service to me and the community. [Add your own story about dog walkers. "My dogs go out with a dog walker every week and I have seen a massive improvement in their behaviour and socialisation, I love knowing that they are well looked after and exercised on the days they go out."]
